What’s so special about a Pure Michigan water fall? It’s the white foamy crests, which dive through the steady river flow. It’s the water rushing down the falls in transparent curtains.

It’s the thrill of finding them, and the loud roar before you even get a glimpse.

We are so excited about this. We love Michigan waterfalls because of this.

PRO-TIP : Nearly all the waterfalls can be found in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We recommend that you visit all of them. Upper Peninsula Waterfalls

Tahquamenon Falls

We decided to create a blog about the well-known Tahquamenon Falls.

Tahquamenon, which is divided into the lower and upper falls, is a stunning place of natural beauty. The 200-foot wide upper falls plunge into the Michigan River at 50 feet. It’s actually the second-largest waterfall east side of the Mississippi.

Tahquamenon’s Upper Falls are affectionately known as the Root Beer Falls because of their distinctive brown color.

The glowing brown color of the waterfalls is actually due to the tannins found in the cedar and hemlock trees.

Just as special is the lower Tahquamenon Falls. To reach the lower Tahquamenon falls, you can either drive or hike four miles. The lower falls are made up of five small waterfalls. Visitors can access the island by rowboat.

This Tahquamenon adventure can be yours for free if you have a Michigan State Park pass.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park also offers camping spots and scenic hiking opportunities. It also has its own brewery, pub, and restaurant.

For stunning views of the national lakeshore waterfalls and sandstone cliffs, journey to PicturedRocks National Lakeshore Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, one of the most visited national park in the country, is home to picturesque waterfalls that play an important role in its scenic beauty.

Sable Falls

Sable Falls, located in Burt Township, Michigan, is west of Grand Marais. Here, the water flows effortlessly over curved sandstone formations into a rushing stream.

The waterfall can be found half a mile away from the parking lot.

Follow the path down to reach Sable Falls Beach, where you will be greeted by a breathtaking view of Lake Superior. Chapel Falls

Chapel Falls and Mosquito Falls

This waterfall is a great place to go hiking. The Chapel Loop is 10 mile long and features rock formations, sunshine, and woodsy trails.

Don’t be discouraged if this seems too long. You can also choose shorter routes. You’ll see both Chapel Falls as well as Mosquito Falls during this hike.

Also, keep an eye out to Chapel Rock and Chapel Beach.

Munising Falls

Munising MI’s waterfall is an amazing sight in and of itself.

The falls tumble over a ridged, sandstone cliff and catch the summer sun’s beautiful light. In the winter, they freeze into snowy, magical formations.

Miners Falls

Take a quick detour from Miners Castle Road if you are on Miners Castle Road.

After a short hike you will be able to take in the stunning views of the waterfall that gushes over the cliffside. You can allow your pet to walk along the trails that lead to the waterfall. Bridalveil Falls

This is your chance to explore a waterfall gorge, and view the falls from every angle and up-close. Although it may seem small, Memorial Falls is quite magical.

Alger Falls

Alger Falls, with its series of rocky drops, looks like it was made to be a staircase for greats.

This roadside waterfall is worth a stop while you are driving down M-28. It offers a stunning view. To ensure the best water flow, it is a good idea to save Memorial and Alger Falls for after rain. Wagner Falls

Wagner Falls

Follow a boardwalk through the woods to find this waterfall. Wagner Falls is protected by a state scenic site of 23 acres.

Make sure to bring your camera. This is an excellent example of Michigan’s natural beauty.

Rock River Falls

Rock River Falls can be reached via the forested trails in Rock River Canyon Wilderness.

You’ll find tranquil scenery here and calm water that cascades over rocks into a beautiful pool.

Laughing Whitefish Falls

The last Alger County waterfall we have on this list (don’t worry, there may be more) is Laughing Whitefish. It’s one of the highest waterfalls in Michigan.

This water forms little rapids that run down the dark layers of rock and into the river below.

Canyon Falls

The waterfall at L’Anse in Michigan is like something from a fantasy land.

Canyon Falls is also known as the Grand Canyon of the UP. It channels black rocks into a boxed canyon.

Let’s drive to Paulding (MI) to see the sights and sounds at Bond Falls.

The water falls 50 feet below the ground. You can enjoy a stunning view from the boardwalk trails, which run around the falls. Agate Falls

Waterfalls in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula

Ocqueoc Falls

Ocqueoc Falls is the highest waterfall in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and deserves its own title.

It is located off the M68 highway in Ocqueoc (Michigan), just 30 minutes north of Alpena. You can hike, bike and swim along the six-mile trail that runs through the falls.

You might be tempted to stay longer than one day. Camp nearby in a state forest campground and then return the next morning to enjoy more Michigan waterfall fun.

PRO TIP: Spend the day hiking, splashing in the falls and then head down to Alpena which is only 40 minutes away. A charming town is just a short drive from the beautiful shores of Michigan’s Thunder Bay.
