One of Michigan’s most popular family-fun destinations in autumn is right in the middle.

Uncle John’s Cider Mill, a sprawling farm – an apple orchard – cider mill – and many more – is located in the scenic rolling hills of mid Michigan in St. Johns.

The family-owned cider mill is now in its fifth generation. It’s always a pleasant sight for motorists as it springs up along a stretch highway.

It’s impossible to make a quick trip to a Cider Mill. This is true at Uncle John’s.

You won’t be tempted by the freshly baked donuts, pies, caramel-dipped apple cider, or the sweet, tart apple cider. It’s the wide variety of activities on the expansive grounds that will keep your attention.

We are happy to admit that we spent a lot of our sunny autumn afternoons navigating the corn maze. It was so much fun, and I don’t think anyone cared if it ever got us out.

Uncle John’s offers a 40-foot Mining Sluice that allows children to “mine” gemstones.

Uncle John’s makes award-winning hard cider, wine, and vodka distilled from apple juice. They also have a Tasting Room that is open to the public.

The Cider Yard is also open for families to enjoy cider (hard cider or non-alcoholic), as well as bonfire pits and yard games, food trucks and music.

Uncle Johns also has a bakery and gift shop. They offer jams, fruit breads, and a variety of Michigan-made products.

Let’s start with the setting. There’s nothing quite like autumn in northern Michigan.

This family-owned apple tree is located north of Alpena, and south of Mackinaw City (Rogers City), with stunning views of northeast Michigan as the backdrop.

It’s simply breathtaking to see acres upon acres of hardwood forest, all ablaze with fall colors against the blue sky.

A sprawling apple orchard with over 50 varieties of dwarf and semi-dwarf apples trees makes for a wonderful fall day in Michigan.

Then there’s the food. Knaebe’s has a main building that houses a bakery, where cider, donuts, and other baked goods are available. There’s also a barn in which you can find wood-fired pizza and hard ciders.

Knaebe’s is best visited with an appetite. The combination of fresh northern Michigan air and cinnamon and apples will surely make you hungry.

Knaebes boasts more than 13 acres of apple trees with U-Pick or hand-picked varieties.

Spend a day picking fresh apples and taking in the northern Michigan air. Then, explore the other activities available on the grounds.

Rennie Orchards is a great place for fall experiences in “Up-North” Michigan.

You can even plan your fall weekend getaway around a trip to Traverse City’s family-owned farm.

Rennie Orchards will have a permanent spot in your heart, but it’s more than just the apples. It’s the setting that matters.

The farm is situated atop one the area’s naturally scenic rolling hills. It offers breathtaking views of northern Michigan against a brilliant blue sky.

This northern Michigan farm, which has been in the family for over 70 years, is a paradise for fruit-lovers. It grows cherries, peaches, and pumpkins, and it’s also home to gourds and gourds.

However, it’s the 10 varieties of apples that are most popular in Autumn, and that includes the highly-sought Honey Crisp apple. There are both U-pick and prepicked apples.

This quiet spot is the oldest operating apple orchard in Michigan. It comes alive in autumn.

Wiard’s will open their Cider Mill and Apple Orchards to the public, along with their “Country Fair”, a fall festival that features wagon rides, a mini-golf course, animal farms, and more.

Wiard’s Country Fair serves more as an agri-entertainment area for children of all ages. There’s an apple cannon and giant inflatables.

We enjoyed meeting Cinnamon, the friendly Llama, and her friendly Goat pals. It was so much fun to see them play in their animal playground (which even has its own structure).

The Country Market and Bakery is a great place to keep your energy up, or just stop by for some sweet treats. It’s filled with fresh cider and donuts, candies, and some of our favorite carmel-dipped apples.

Jams, jelly, and other baked goods are also available, as well as a selection of frozen pies that can be made at home.

Spicer Orchards

We are not exaggerating: The view from Spicer Orchards’ picnic table overlooking rolling farmland and the backdrop of the Michigan sky is breathtaking.

It’s one the unexpected delights that you find when traveling through Michigan that make it so beautiful.

Spicer Orchards is not just for apple picking. Children of all ages will have a blast visiting Spicer Orchards. They can enjoy wagon and train rides as well as bounce houses, face painting and a zip line.

After visiting the bakery and farm market, you will be able to sample the Spicer Winery’s wines and hard ciders.

Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill

Blake’s Farms, a family-owned and operated farm, is the first to offer U-pick apples in the state. It’s clear that they take their responsibility for cider-lovers seriously.

This southeast Michigan cider mill is just an hour north of Detroit and will entertain both children and adults.

You’ll find plenty to do at this bustling cider mill located in Armada (MI), in addition to apples.

You can also enjoy wine, beer and Blake’s hard cider in the tasting room and restaurant.

You can continue the fun throughout the evening, with the addition of cider, donuts, and a wagon ride.

You may not want to leave, so pair it with some apple cider.

This picturesque spot is worth the trip from Jackson. Meckley’s is a must-see fall destination for nearly 50 years. They know how to make their guests happy.

Meckley’s also offers cider and donuts on weekends.

You can enjoy the warm comfort of a bonfire pit if you come on a cool fall day.
